| The Washitaw were master boatbuilders and traders. As recently as the early 1800's, just before the 'Louisiana Territories" were annexed by the U.S., the Washitaw engaged in trade and commerce with lands far across the Atlantic to West Africa, as well as the coasts of South America and throughout the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico region. (see www.Hotep.org)
Their trade routes and trading areas also covered the entire North American continent and the Mississippi River and other waterways were their main highways of travel. The Washitaw once owned over fifteen million acres of land, now called Washitaw Proper. This area was their empire and included the states of Texas, Louisiana (where they still exist today and own about 68,000 acres of the original amount), Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arkansas. Lands included in the illegal Louisiana Purchase, including Ohio count the enormous miles and acres, stolen from the Washitaw Black Nation. |
